With the rise of AI’s on the web like OpenAI’s image generator Dall-E 2, a whole new world of possibilities opens up.  According to OpenAI, you own all the images you create with DALL-E. Meaning you have the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise the images.

So, have you always wanted your own ecommerce business selling artwork, but a lack of creativity was holding you back? Don’t hesitate any longer because things are about to change.

What is DALL-E image generator and how can you use it?

DALL-E is an image generator created by OpenAI. It creates original and realistic images from text description. The first DALL-E was introduced in January 2021. The following year DALL-E 2 was introduced, promising more realistic and accurate images with 4x greater resolution.

Sell AI art in your online wall art store

So let’s say you have an online business in selling wall art and you are searching for new designs to expand. Your current store offers wall art from all sorts categories ranging from ‘’Botanical’’ to ‘’Iconic photos’’. You are thinking about adding a new wall art category and your site analytics tell you that images with animals and art containing lots of colors sell best on your site.

Being all smart and creative you decide to add ‘’Andy Warhol style prints’’ as a new category on your site. To fill this new wall art category with fresh art, you want to use DALL-E 2 to generate unique images that you can sell as new wall art on your site.

Depending on the desired outcome, you want to provide as much detail as possible. So if you’re looking for a more general image you can generate using terms like; "andy warhol ape image". You will have an image generated close to this:

Sell your ai generated artwork online

Sell AI art in your online gift store

In this example you are the owner of an ecommerce business selling all sorts of gift items. Mugs, cards, puzzles you name it. Your proposition is focused around important ecommerce moments spread throughout the year. Think birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and of course the holiday season.

You depend on external design studios for unique art to sell on your products, and are looking for ways to save money. Money you'd rather spend on marketing of course. You notice minimalistic line art is getting quite popular so you decide to use DALL-e’s generator.

Again, you want to provide as much detail as possible. In this example we used the input ‘’ a minimalistic romantic line drawing of two hands holding’’. This is the output we get:

Minimalistic hand drawing

All generated images can be downloaded, and in fact, if you like a result you get , you can generate variations of that specific image. So let’s say you think image number 1 (most left) has the most commercial potential. You choose ‘’generate variations’’ and this is the result we get:

Minimalistic drawing of two hands

Maybe some of the hands look like animal claws…but practice makes perfect and this is just a matter of continuing to test it.

Sell your generated AI art for your retail business

In this last example we tell you how to sell your AI art not only online but also in a physical store. The high quality images generated by Dall-E 2 can easily be printed and showcased in your retail store.

So let’s say you’re an interior designer owning a furniture store selling mainly classic furniture. You are up to speed with the latest trends and want to start selling beautiful wall art in addition to furniture. Lately customers are expressing an interest in unique classical art with an artistic touch. You decide to use Dall-E’s image generator to generate some classical art images.

To generate some classical art images, you get your inspiration from Rembrandt van Rijn or Johannes Vermeer. You use ‘’an oil painting of the girl with the pearl earring holding a cat’’. You want it to be classical but unique of course. This is what we get:

Oil painting of girl with the pearl earring

Quite nice right? Perfect for your retail business and to be showcased in your furniture store. If you get the hang of it, you can start getting creative and edit the generated image. Let’s say we select the first image and choose ‘’edit’’. We erase the cat in the picture and edit the detailed description. Instead of a ‘’silly cat’’ we choose ‘’cute dog’’. This is the result we get:

Oil painting of girl with dog

Instead of a silly cat, we have managed to create a variation with a cute little dog. All of these AI art images can be used to sell on all types of wall art for your retail business. And what about pillowcases with this unique design to act like a complementary product next to the wall art you sell? The options are limitless.

These are just a few examples of how you can sell your AI-generated art using DALL-E 2. With Instant Design Tool, you can quickly set up a wall art or gift shop complete with a shopping cart.
